Exhaust condensation. How much is normal?
I am working on swapping engines in my boat. I have the new to me engine all assembled and have run it on the hose in my shop. The exhaust is totally dry with water being dumped external of the exhaust stream. Manifolds are cast aluminum, risers areas well. They connect to stainless tails.
My question is how much condensation would be acceptable In the tail pipes? Water in garden hose is 55 degrees at best. Water dumping out of tails is about body temp. The inside of the exhaust starting at the elbow all the way out the tail is wet. I can't guess the volume of water but it would soak a paper towel if you held it there for three seconds. Inside the manifolds are totally dry.
I have not pressure tested them to see if they leak, both sides of the exhaust are equally as wet.
What temp should the manifolds be? Elbows and tails are cool, manifolds are about 160.
Thanks,
LC
