Big M Dart block..is it ok for marine use??

Does anyone know if a Big M Dart Block would be ok to use for a marine application?

As long as you machine with the proper clearances, I wouldn't see why not.

Might be one of the best for the application.

I was told by a few people that Marine block and street blocks were different. That a street block does not have as much water porting as a marine block. I can get a decent deal on a Big M Daert block rebuild. Cost me about 4800.00 for whole rebuild. Ive got a cracked block with 150 hours on engine and mechanic would rebuild mine with a Dart block. Its a 502 Mag. Does that sound like a decent price?

only problem is that a 502 mag is a gen 5/6 block and the dart is a gen 4, so your rotating assembly will not work in the dart block. At least your crank wont work.

Is that estimate the cost of the block, machine work, setup, all gastkets and everything needed to put it back together? If so, that is a pretty good price. Except that you are a GenV/VI and the Big M is a Gen IV. So new parts are necessary.

Big M blocks are one of the best for big block builds. I have no knowledge of a difference between street and marine, but I guess there could be.

Beat me to it.....

If you are just planning on rebuilding back to 502 mag specs, then the dart block is kind of overkill anyway.

DareDevil 03-17-2011 11:53 PM

well, maybe you can see it ..but in the classifieds here are plenty 502.ss for a few dollars more , this one is a complete engine ..beefed up and ready to drop in !!!!!
