Default bbc 1.7 rocker arms

I know every one recommends crane for rockers. Im getting to the end of my build, is there a cost effective but strong roller rocker that anyone recommends for a +/- 500HP 454?
If i do go with crane can i use my stock guide plates?

BEWARE of Crane these days. I just bought a set of their Gold Rockers for my 500 EFI as a few of mine were bad and they were factory. The set I got from Summit was terrible (not their fault). The roller tips were notchy at best, and the oilers that are fed by the pushrod tip faced any which direction they felt like. Some shot straight down the rocker, others would shoot oil straight at the side of the rocker. TERRIBLE

Get the Scorpion Endurance Marine lifters. This is what Merc now uses in the blue motors.. I'm running them in my engine and am very happy with them.

Stock GM guide plates should work fine as long as the slots are correct for the puush rods.. That is what is on Merc engines.

I have been running Scorpions for 10 years. I bought a new set last year off ebay.

These rockers have over 100hrs on them in my partners 598 airboat engine. I am not sure of the brand but look identical to the scorpions (the builder was suppose to use scorpions, but will not give him a build sheet on anything on the motor). The standard guide plates showed signs of wear with one failing. We replaced them with the Dart adjustable guide plate that allow you to adjust the rockers in perfect alignment with the valves. We just got them installed yesterday and ops checked. He is using these with chm pro pushrods.

Sorry - i can not figure out how to post pics

I am using the Comp cams magnum rockers on my zz502 with a 1.72 ratio adn xr288hr comp cams on my airboat. Not a radical lift cam or high lift like my partners

i have used harland/sharpe before and they work well.they are priced right, around 240.00 or so.only problem i have encountered are the arms are kinda chunky and might have to be filed alittle to clear some valve covers.

I have been using the Comp Cams pro magnum rockers, very good luck with them. I would use oversize pushrods, in that case you need oversize guideplates.
