just got engine in and the rear of the engine is down about 1/8" or so...by looking thru gimbal bearing, has solid offshore mounts and just using the fibre washers at the bellhousing, can I shim with a washer or another fibre washer ? thanks Rob

When I pulled my engines mine also did not have the stainless steel double wound washers/spacers. I contacted merc and they stated that more than likely the engines had been out and the mechanic failed to install. My washers had been taped in place with electrical tape. Merc rep said that was fairly common to tape in place while installing engines. I reinstalled the spacers. I have read on offshore mounts adjustment is made at the front mount with your bolts(redrill holes slightly to get room to shim). I wouldn't do this, it's bound to slip eventually. If you're drive slides in and out of coupler it should be fine. If you haven't had couplers/u joints failing, I'd put it back the way it came out, but with the washers. Also look up alignment tool. I'm no expert, hobbyist boater, take my advice with a grain of salt! But this is what I did.

I just talked to a Merc tech said need to put the spring shim back in....I have a pair here, so will try to lift just the rear up enough to slid them in..hate to unbolt the front mounts...
