From what I understand about synthetic, is that it not only holds up better, but it swells your seals more than regular oil. That is why you can't go back to regular oil once you switch to synthetic. I would think switching an older motor to synthetic would be ideal.

^^^You can go back to regular oil anytime, aint gonna hurt a thing.
