I've talked to 4 different mechanics about ruuning antifreeze through an outboard- 2 say good idea, 2 say waste of time and money --- whats the real story?

What type engine? Hp? If it is a conventional 2-stroke I would say no.. They are self draining. So what ever goes in will come out... You will loose the corrosion inhibitors.. Also most blocks are cast aluminum so...
However I suggest running engine tuner through it if it is indeed a 2-stroke...

As has already been said, winterizing an outboard by running antifreeze through it is a total waste of time since they're self draining. You do however need to change your gear lube, stabilize the fuel and grease all fittings. For older (carbed) motors, I'd also recommend fogging them. So there is some "winterizing" work still required.
