Are the timing covers on the Gen V/VI the same? I need a Gen VI aluminum timing cover if anyone has one.

Gen 5 and 6 covers are not the same
Gen 5 has same bolt pattern as mark 4 ,8 bolts, but has a flange on bottom for oil pan seal and mark 4 has no flange
Gen 6 only has 6 bolts and a different pattern it also has the oil pan flange. The gen 6 cover is also shallow so of you want to use a double roller timing chain you have to get the correct one to fit under the cover

The Gen V and Mk IV covers actually have 10 bolts. However, there are not the same cover. All of the covers have a lip that the oil pan gasket goes over to seal. They do differ from the MK IV to the Gen V/VI.

The nicest aftermarket cast aluminum cover I have seen for the Gen VI is by IMCO. They have a very nice casted cover that fits great. I have tried the cheaper ones and had some fitment issues. Why do you have to have a cast aluminum cover? You can use the stock cover with a double roller timing set, if that's the reason you are looking to change it.

I just finished a gen6 502 (my first gen6. All my other bbc's have been gen4) I used a cheap cover (think it was made by Prc if I recall correctly). We did have fitment issues with it but only at the dowl pins (the holes on the cover were to small). I took a small chip out of the cover at the dowl hole when I drilled it. The crank snout centered very well on the timing cover seal so there are no problems there. I also used a rollmaster timing chain with no problems. When I fired the motor I found that it had a pretty bad oil leak coming from the front of the oil pan gasket (felpro 1pc.). My bad.....I didn't silicon it at the rail and it moved. After pulling the cover, etc... back off and sealing the front of the pan gasket I have stopped the leak. I highly recommend using something to keep the front seal in place. The front rail is narrow as is the section of the gasket it seals. Hope some of this info might be usefull. Mark
