Default 454 Mag. getting hot, HELP

1994 454 Merc. mag, carbed. Not used often, so new impeler, new circ. water pump.
On hose, water flow seems a bit low, but water si coming out whre it should, at STD or a bit higher RPM's. Engine gets to about 175-180+-.
Possible restriction in water lines due to age? or thermostat?
I wouldn't think it would get hot just on idle, and didn't take i tout for sea tret yet.
Any ideas? Thx
P

take inlet hose off sea pump. stick garden hose in and blow out back thru drive or transom pick-up. especially if it is a drive pick up. the fitting in transom where both hoses mount is the skinny spot and stuff can back up there.

Done that. Thanks. no ristriction in any "rubber" hose. Possibly in the block, rust? corrosion? etc? but I welcome all ideas.
Thx

you cannot get normal waterflow on the garden hose, anything above idle and the sea pump will suck more volume than the garden hose can supply, put it in the water and il bet it will be ok.let us know the outcome.

If you have a sea strainer take a look at it,,,,,,its always empty on a hose,,,,not enough volume
