cleaned up flywheel in freezer and ring gear in oven, have flywheel near oven. don't want it to cool down, then knock it down evenly with hammer. have good gloves for heat.

Also don't drop it on the kitchen floor or a bad ring gear will be the least of your worries. Also make sure you put it on the right side it came off of.

a piece of plywood or a couple of pieces of 2x4 lumber on floor in front of oven.

actually i just do car front wheel bearings this way. a friend used to put hubs on rotor shafts for helicopters back in conn same way. he had 10 seconds to get hub on shaft. if not down all the way, it was expensive scrap metal.

If your doing it on a damp day, wipe off the condensation off of the flywheel before you drop the ring gear on. I used to do Piston pins this way without an arbor press. We had some damp days and the condensation cooled the rods too quickly, had to take them to the machine shop anyway.
