I have a 272 sr1. Twin 350s an alphas. I have a water leak when motor is running. Coming from edge of transom assembly inside. I've verified the water inlet hose is good and tight and doesn't appear to be leaking where flange meets housing. Curious if anyone else has had this happen or where else to look. I won't e home for 2 more weeks just brainstorming right now.

Any help is always appreciated.

Are you sure that it is only when running? What type of exhaust do you have?

Yes I'm sure. Lowered lift enough for just bottom of drive in. Everything dry. After cranking up lean behind motor a few seconds later water coming in.

Thru hulls. Stock manifolds.

could be freeze plugs rotted out on back of block behind the flywheel.

Nah it's coming right down edge of transom assembly. Not motor related has to be something to do with water inlet pipe.

Crack in the bellows

The o-ring that seals the transom assembly is no longer sealing against the transom. With the motor running, it's putting just enough twist on it to open a gap.

My Baja was same way. Dry as a bone while it sat. 1 hr, 1 day, 1 week...made no difference. But when I ran the motors, it'd get a small trickle as soon as the motors were started. When I pulled the TA's off, the large o-rings were as flat as can be from being compressed since '95. Beings yours is even older......

Yea, what cigrocket said you have crack in your pipe.Exhaust water leaking from your crack exhaust pipe at transom or the rubber hose IMO.

Great responses. However is it does it without transom assembly in water. Boat sits on a lift. I can lower it enough so just lower unit is in water and crank the motor. This is boggling me. I just did all new bellows and bearings and what not on both motors.

It's just a bizzare leak. Of course it's my lil can't be an easy leak to find. Lol
