electric hatch actuator
 

My hatch actuator was starting to act up so i decided to take it apart i found the motor to been completely full of grease. Ive never seen or heard of a motor to be run like this before. Is this how it should be? If so what kind of grease should i put back in?

Not sure what kind yours is. My older one looks like this. I just used axle grease. Been working fine. I also added relays to speed it up.

Don't mean to hijack this thread, but do you have a wiring diagram on how you wired in the solenoids? Can you send a copy to [email protected]?

I actually should post/make a thread of pics (how to) of kinda rebuilding/grease these. I also ran/ soldered bigger wires to the inside of the motor.

thanks for the replys ive already got a few water proof hella relays to speed it up. and ya i can see using wheel bearign grease on the gears and rod but i found grease packed inside the motor. armature brushes etc... this seems wierd to me

I don't remember any grease in mine when I pulled it apart. Maybe some dielectric grease I could see.

Motors will get full of grease if someone is overzealous with their greasing. Typically any motor or gear assembly connected to a motor with a zerk fitting only needs a couple pumps of grease. Sometimes people go crazy and keep pumping, thinking that "the more the better". I know because I have done this and suffered the consequences. Doh!

If your motor was still working, you can use electronic contact cleaner to get all the grease out and keep using the motor, or just leave it alone and keep using it.

Search the powerquest section....I posted the cole hersee part number of a high quality relay set up, epoxy covered.

Night and day difference.
