IMCO drive issue

Raypanic,
I think finding shavings in the drive oil when pulling the plug is somewhat normal. About how much HP do you think you're running on your 38 Power Quest? And how heavy is your boat?
Thanks again,
Mark/KAAMA

I am running whippled 502MPI at about 700 hp each, Boat is abou 10K loaded. I think the shavings are normal too, There were very few and they were like "magnetic dust" not chips or chunks. I would believe it is just the gear faces wearing in. (I hope).

thanks so much, Mike
Makes me wonder if something could happen on the passage way for the internal drive cooler also.
Your problem would show it's ugly head real quick when you saw no water coming out the pipes.
The internal drive cooler wouldn't be so easy to see. It would just probably burn the **** out of you when you put your hand or foot on it after a hard pass

Water "was" coming out of both sets of the exhaust pipes...my fresh water flush was feeding the other side with water till the rpm's got high enough to suck the hose flat.
There was no hole on the gear housing for water to pass through it.

Back4More,
Glad to hear you found it without melting down a motor.. What did Imco say about it??? I bought some HP gears from them a few years back and they failed and should not have. But they wouldnt do anything about it.. I am wondering if they are more user friendly..
Good luck with your project..
Dick

For that kind of money I don't think you should have to deal with those kind of issues. Makes you wonder how many are like that. We know Raypanic & Back 4more had problems with quality control and others with no support on other drive issues. Alot of money with not much factory help and are they still no warranty?

Not too many
I am hearing Max will go to 850
XR drive won't hold up to big hp and they are very close to the cost of an SC.
Quality problems is a different problem. It's new and the bugs will have to be worked out. The bad thing we will be the g. Pigs
