Actually he didnt try to direct me either way, we talked about both systems & he had read this thread obviously but after listening to my situation as far as dumping money into this project he explained what it will take & why to make either package work. That is why I started this thread, there are a lot of people on here that know what they are doing & I believe can steer me in the right direction with either setup. The more I think about it the new blower is the way I am leaning but I am not going to pull the plug if this person wants it, They need to bring cash with them though because I wont play games with waiting around. It will be sold or used. Randy

Have you hugged your gremlin today?

:poopoo: I opened up the boat today to start cleaning and this is what I found. After removing the parts & rinsing out it's not as bad as I thought at first. The side mount will not be reinstalled in this boat, After talking with Eddie @ youngs concerning upgrades & physically seeing the components I will be selling this system for a reasonable price for what it is. I am posting some pics so you guys can see what I am working on & welcome comments, advice. I hope to make this project as fun as my "Pulling the trigger" project. No time limit & NO GREMLINS!!! LOL Randy

Best of luck with this project Randy . Sounds like it's gonna be a rocket . Shoot dem fockin gremlins !! :lolhit:

Randy, just make sure gremlin # 2 (or anyone else) has replaced the 11 psi oil bypass valve in the filter pad with a 30 psi valve since the crate motors does have the 11 psi valves factory installed.
If you have the common marine setup with filter and cooler in series differential pressure between inlet and outlet of this circuit might exceed 11 psi and you will suddenly have unfiltered hot oil going directly to the crank. |
Gremlins
Alex, thank you for commenting. Thankfully gremlin #2 is long gone & good riddence, as far as the oiling system that entire setup will not be used. I have been looking into a drop in complete engine assy from a builder you all know. I wanted to build my own with assistance from a pro but adding up the cost of parts, machine work, dyno & tuning, & taking someone away from their job to walk me through a project they cannot put their name on for quality assurrance is not worth putting this boat back in mothballs over. I will I'm sure pay a little more up front but the result will be worth it. Anybody got any coupons? Randy

Let there be no doubt Dustin know's his stuff ,that's why an answer like that surprized me. It looks to me as if you were saving all the good parts . I'm sure Eddie told you to go with the newer whipple and he is just the guy to get you fixed up. The man just has these engines figured out and has alway's been willing to help out .

Thank you Dustin for the info the side mount will be for sale shortly as I just found out today the sale of my top mount setup fell through so I will be getting it back. I need to aquire some fuel system parts for the injection system so I can sell it as a complete bolt on computer to fuel pump & everthing inbetween. Randy

Randy, it sounds like you will be able to use the top mount on your new project now that it's back in your lap, which is by far the better way to go than the side mount. I have had the side mount unit for 11 years now, and I would like to do more, but it just doesn't pencil out to use the old platform & technology to convert to bigger power. Let me know what you plan to do with the 509, I may need to start a new project!
