Merc 600's info?

does anyone have any tech info on the merc 600's? what block, blower, carbs, boost, etc.? what kind of hp/torque at what rpm ranges are they producing? what kind of experiences have you had with these motors? how many normal hours can be expected out of them before a rebuild?

any info or links to info would be appreciated.

thanks in advance....

JBK 600'S

the 600's were 502 ci motors with 7.5 compression used the B&M 420 megablower they were rated at 550 at the prop, rpm range was 4800-5200. they would make more power if you ran them with more rpm and boost which i believe in stock trim they ran approx. 5lbs of boost. with a minumum octane of 91 and 93 the perfered choice. they only came as a bobtail and were rough on bravo's.

later- thanks for the info! with only 5lbs of boost, i would think the reliability/longevity would be decent. either way, with 230 original hours, i'm still looking at a rebuild in the very near future.

are you going to be at the lake this weekend? i'll probably be down, but it will be a working weekend for me. i'm finishing moving into the new place and then probably cleaning on the boat, changing oil, etc.

thanks again,
chad

i take it your looking at a 38 cig with 600's

I would think that at 230hrs you wouldnt get to many moer hrs before rebuilds. although i have read were some of the blower motors go into the 400hrs im sure there pretty tired. i will be down this weekend having a relaxing weekend. had all my guy's and their wifes that work for me down for a bbq last weekend about 26 people and i was wopped entertaining and all (hard work) making sure everyone is having a good time. ill be piddling this weekend wax the boat etc. hopefuly your moved into your new place and have found a place for everything by now are found everything sometimes thats a chore unpacking and all. ill look for you on the water and if your up my way stop by and ill by you a drink.

jawbreakerkid 07-24-2002 01:16 PM

yep, i've always had a thing for that boat. i used to see it flying up and down the lake when Brian Foster owned it. i'm actually looking for a late model T/S, but old memories die hard...LOL.

i'll look you up if i'm up at your end of the lake. thanks again!
