Default Power assist steering pump needed

I have a 32 ft Maelstrom Cat with triple Merc 2.4's that is a bear to steer. My mechanic says I need a power assist pump for the hydraulic steering....I've searched and dealers are real proud of them! Anyone have one kicking around their garage for sale?

Not sure if it anything like an i/o set up. But if you drain all the fluid from the system and disconect the pump the steering gets much easier, as you are not fighting all the fluid in the system.

I assume you are talking about a Capilano style helm pump. Or the Hynautic H-21 or H-41 with the reservalve system.

Learn something new everyday. My H-21 turned my I/Os easily just to many turns lock to lock.

Yes, those are the one's I'm talking about. Hard to believe they want so much for them. And they're scarce on sites like Ebay. I found a couple that don't work at all and are listed just for parts in the $200 to $400 range......maybe I'll just have to bite the bullet and drop another thousand......what does BOAT stand for: Bust Out Another Thousand!!
