Add StaBil to the tank(s).

Remove fuel/water separator.
Pour out half the fuel.
Fill with two-stroke oil.
Re-intstall fuel/water separator.
Run for another two minutes or so, and shut it down.

I drain the SW side of my 496 motors, then run about 3 gallons of antifreeze though them. R&R the fuel filter as above, and run 2-3 more gallons of antifreeze though them until the exhaust is good and smokey.
Done.

Fogging Mixture
In a 6 US gal (23 L) remote outboard fuel tank, mix:
5 US gal (19 L) regular unleaded 87 octane (90 RON) gasoline.
64 fl oz. (1.89 L) Mercury or Quicksilver Premium Plus 2-Cycle TC-W3 Outboard oil. (you can use DFI oil for Mercury Optimax)
5 fl oz. (150 mL) Mercury or Quicksilver Fuel System Treatment and Stabilizer, OR
1 fl oz. (30 mL) Mercury or Quicksilver Fuel System Treatment and Stabilizer
Concentrate.

Using wrong two stroke oil can clog your injectors and block fuel pumps.

The Service bulletin above is the correct way from Mercruiser as we have been doing it that way for 10 years for well over 1000 EFI / MPI engines. I would say in the last 4 years we cut the oil volume down because of spark plug issues during summarization especially for the 496. Also do not forget to put fuel stabilizer in the fuel tank.

Also IMO 5 gallons of fuel with 64 oz of oil during fogging on a Catalyst system engine is too much oil that can ruin the catalyst core over time. Just my 2 cents.

Next tip if you have the Gen III cool fuel system U need to pull the 2 hoses off the back side of the cool fuel unit itself to completely and properly drain it of all water. It is wise to position your boat nose high to help completely drain the Gen III cool fuel system. If not done properly U can crack the fuel cool during hard freezes. This also comes from factory Mercruiser service training. I know I am very current with all them including Volvo Penta as well.
