Default Quick Question.....Winterizing 496 H.O.

I have winterized my 496 H.O. the last couple years with out an issue, My boat goes in a garage below the frost line that keeps it above 40* all the time. I always put Sta-Bil in my fuel, My question is, Someone told me to put a couple of ounces of 2-cycle oil in the gas to lubricate the seals in the fuel pump over the winter, not a problem, How much 2-cycle oil do I use?? I think I probably have about 40 gallons of fuel which I hope to burn down a little tomorrow for the last ride of the year.

Your better off filling it completely up to prevent condensation/moisture !! Not sure about the two stroke oil... I would drain all water, fill fuel tank, add addative, then cover her up !!!

My boat goes in a garage that is below the frost line so it does not get the change in temperature. I drain the fuel to almost empty, treat it and fill it in the spring with the good stuff. I do drain all the oil and fill with fresh, fog the cylinders and fill the block with anti freeze even though I can just pump out the block and let it go if I wanted to take the chance, I take good care of this motor, just heard of the 2 cycle oil trick this week, just looking for info.

I stopped at my local marina to get a water/fuel separator and he told me this, he said it lubes the seals in the fuel pump using the 2-cycle oil, just a couple ounces, He may be right, I don't know, but it sounds like it make sense that is why I am asking.

Just an observation, a couple of ounces to how much fuel? I have rebuilt many outboard carbs that gummed up from letting fuel/oil mix set over the winter. Plus if your not using ethanol the fuel in the system with stabilizer should keep the seals from drying up. Imho. Randy

I probably have 40 gallons in the tank, I will put Sta-Bil in the tank, but I heard add a couple ounces of 2 cycle for fuel pump seal lube, I have never heard of that, that is why I ask.

imo,2 oz of oil in 40 gal of fuel will do nothing for the seals,or anything else.think about it,5280 oz of fuel and 2 oz of oil.

You should not "fog" a fuel injected engine by dumping fogging oil into the air intake. (That's a technique used for carbureted engines.) The two stroke oil suggestion is a technique to safely "fog" a fuel injected engine by getting oil into the engine via the fuel path.

If you have a choice, and can store your boat with pure gas in it (non-ethanol fuel) I would do it.
