This weeks problems and issues
#21
Ike has a set of 25's he wants to toss on there and try out.
I did not object. Cant hurt to see how the hell to get this thing moving.
I think if it is around 500 HP each, I should find out what props come with the HP500 carb motors and in and around 28-30' boats and start there testing out different things.
Hot Duck told me to start with 27's and go UP from there
Ill try Ike's 25's and see if I have blow out or not.
but this looks like it is going to be a time consuming affair trying to prop this beast right.
that is assuming my engines will hold oil pressure for more than 10 minutes

bro...it kills me to read this...SO MANY people have you going to all different directions....Audiofn has the right idea.
27's...WOW...dude your turning 21's at 4400....if your engine clown said you are making 500 hp or so you have MAJOR ISSUES! energy can not be created or destroyed!!! figure out (engine clown) where the f@#$ it is!
hold ONE guy responsible for EVERYTHING and pay the $$$...sounds like the engine dude is going to get off the hook???
"I should find out what props come with the HP500 carb motors and in and around 28-30' boats and start there testing out different things. """...ok then...i turn 32's with mine.....this IS your ##### 1 problem....you keep looking for answers in ALL the wrong places...what is right for your boat/engine/set-up???NOT someone elses.

What the word smith up above has again so eloquently said is you have issues that go WAY beyond props. You have to figure out your engine issues first before you try props. I have NEVER seen some one run a 21 that planes off no problem with a 330hp motor and then go to a 500hp motor and all the sudden not be able to plane off. IT JUST DOES NOT HAPPEN!!!!! All I can think of is that Blown Formulas boost was starting to kick in and he could not throttle the boat to keep it off the boost and also get on plane. The engines develope enough torque and blow out the props. You do not have blowers so this is not a problem for you. I gave you Biggus's set up with the same boat and running 330's that you used to have. So you can see with set up he got to MUCH higher numbers then you are seeing. He was spinning 25 pitch props at 4800rpm with the 330's. This is your base line number that you have to consider. HOWEVER if you are only able to turn just over 4 grand with 21's then adding pitch to say a 26 will only make all your problems worse. Audacity and I are both perhaps showing our frustration with our posts because you are getting SHAFTED by your engine builder. I am sure that if you pulled those motors out and put them in a car they would be fine. This is why you have to take your boat motors to a guy that knows how to build boat motors, NOT a car guy. They are completely different animals. You need to get this builder INVOLVED and accepting responsibiliy for HIS screw ups. DYNO THE MOTOR!!! DYNO THE MOTORS!!!!! DYNO THE MOTOR!!!! GOT IT????? GOOD

Well I dont know what HP im making but im blowing the props out at about 1400 RPM so it is making some sort of HP
the rochester 750's are not going to be around too long
Over the winter im going to do what Kurt said and go for the holley 830's but that is more for ease of tuning and talking to people about jets ect rather than not a damn person on the planet that knows that much about rochester carbs.
But you all so easily forget that I cranked these bad boys to get them started so long I wiped out 2 starters and then cracked the ones nose piece.
So by all of this I may have inadvertantly wiped out the mains from cranking and cranking and cranking with no oil pressure or little oil pressure.
but regardless of whos fault, they are coming out, going back and getting redone and checked over.
the nubby that the engine builder had working there is now fired, was using drugs and just a total schmuck so he is beyond history.
So now maybe the engine builder himself will do this project like I specified in the beginning and he did not listen. (IE bent pushrods)
so we shall see what is going on soon

Jay didn't you prime the engines before you tried to start them? I mean with a primer unit that you put down the distributer and turn with a drill?

I did not no, Engine builder said that he uses much excess of prelube on EVERTHING so that is not necessary, He slimes the cylinders, the pistons, cam looks like a piece of poop with slime all over it, crank is schmoozed overly as well.
I asked about that when Audacity said that weeks and weeks ago when I told everyone I could not get them started.
I called the engine builder and he said no need, but after breaking cams in, dont mind all the crazy crud that comes out when you drain the oil, it will look like something out of a sewer drain, just dont worry about it, it is all his prelube and it is all different colors of crud
I said OKAY your warranting these things ill do what you want.
so now back to square one and have to pull em again.
Jon, I did ask a few times that question, he seemed that he did not think that it would get hurt
Guess he was wrong.

Ya I guess that is not a problem if your oil pump picks up the oil right away. I have however had times that the oil pump did not pick up oil for a long while with the drill. If that happend then your assembly lube would wear off in a second or two then you would be running dry. Just some stuff to check for when you get these things apart.

Funny you said that, Ike said "you think the engine builder dude would mind if I looked at the crank Main bearings? Or would he not want me snooping around in his $hit?"
I said I dont know but Ill ask, im curious as hell as to wtf happened.
Could Cam Bearings cause low oil pressure as well as mains?
Im dying to know what went bad.
