Default Out Drive Work...

Has anyone changed out the out drive steering arm, and upper bolt . using the kit that involves drilling a hole to access the steering arm bolt? ( out drives have a lot of side to side motion in them ).

Wes,

My mechanic says it's no big deal. Of course he has all the right tools.

Wes, check old issues of Powerboat, someone made a tool to take off the top nut without beating the p*^S out of it, it goes through the newly drilled hole and you move the drive to remove and then retighten the bolt. They say it makes the job pretty easy.

I did it in the driveway on #1 Boatnuts Baja,,, drilled the hole and the nut has groves to tap i around with a small chisel or screwdriver,,, ot bad, take your time. P.S. Change the seal while your there,, hey are know to laek and since you have it apart already you might as well change it.

Also keep these 2 stap bolts torques o 55 ft/lbs to prevent it from wearing again.

Oh,, now the bad news, Its most likely your gimbal ring itself thats worn, not the arm/shaft etc.

I've heard that it (the gimbel ring) is @ $700 and that it will have to be replaced.
