Wow this is a good start.. Thanks guys. it all depends on the money i have in this I want to stay natural aspirated because Its a little more reliable and I have no room for a blower of any sort. I realize that the bigger the intake runners the less low rpm performance i sacrafice.. But in a this boat that runs 4000+ rpm most of its life, i don't worry to much about low rpm performance. If money is around a bigger cam will be installed..

Fishhead- I'll keep you in mind, i have to do some homework on this head stuff...

Now that my computer is up and running again I can scan the head manufatures websites and get some idea's on how much dough this is gonna cost me..

Thanks again

Travis

Traviss,

Keep in mind that if you bump the RPM range up you might run into a situation where the engine won't build up enough torque to get it/keep it on plane. I've seen quite a few situations where someone yanked their hot street motor and installed it in the boat only to find that it runs like a total dog due to the loss of low RPM torque.

Just something to keep in mind.

Later!

Tom..

Yes I do realize that if the rpm range is higher the less power I will have down low to get outta the hole. Right now my motor starts making power around 2800 rpm... it takes off around 2000 rpm and end up on plane at 3000.. but all withen a few seconds. that alpha just cries LOL!!

Thats what we have fat chicks for... "women get yo fat ass on the bow" LOL!!

I might not even have to raise the rpm range, we'll have to see how it goes..

Trav,
GM really did their homework on the Vortec heads .They are GREAT up to 5000 rpm. It's really hard to get any more out of them by porting...you really have to know what you're doing ,if not you can actually hurt them . The good news is , a friend of mine has a "400" sbc with Vortec heads , good roller cam , single plane intake , 750 holley , and Gils. It dynoed at 490 hp @ 5200 and I forget the exact torque. I think 375to 400 @ about 3800
to 4000 but don't quote me. He also has an Alpha and doesn't baby it It's packaged in a 20'6" bowrider and does about 70mph. A blower would probably be the way to go but your compression is a little high to start with for a blower

I lost one engine from the valve seat falling out of 5 and sending metal into 3 and over to 8. The only heads for me have no pressed in valve seats. The stock vortec heads have no pressed in valve seats. They use an electrical process to harden the metal around the valve seats. HP is great but when the whole thing falls apart because of one valve seats falls out I don't need those heads. I am sure that other heads are like the vortec and do not have valve seats but that would be my first question.

DO NOT put a blower on it unless you install a bravo drive. YOU WILL BREAK THE ALPHA . At 450 -500 HP you will break drives anyway. Been there done that. I had a Boss 302 in my GLASTRON with the alpha SS. That engine rocked.
