Engine Rebuilding
What would be an average cost on rebuilding a stock 7.4 motor with preexisting issues... Thanks
|
That is a very tough question to answer. Too many variables and not enough infor

yea I know... I just got quoted for a 30 over bore and a balanced short block with no rods and crank for $4500 that seems a bit high but I could be wrong no cam or head work either
|
Between $1800 to infinity. Basic rebuild covers:
1) Head rebuild i.e. valve job, resurface plus parts if needed (Valves, guides, springs extra) 2) Bore and hone block 3) Recondition rods 4) Polish crank (add $100-$150 for turning) 5) Assembly 6) Basic Parts i.e. pistons (cast or hypereutectic), bearing, marine gaskets, head bolts, oil pump w/ screen 7) Clean hot tank The options from there are endless |
New lifters? Flat or roller? No valve job? Dressed motor or stripped?

Thanks guys... I know that there is so many options I made a few more calls in I think I can get done for a much better price . Thanks

Be careful, get what you pay for may come into play.

Oh I know... I am not trying to be cheap ... it never works out in the long run. I just feel that I could get a good rebuild for a little less. I been talking to Bob at Marine Kinetics he feel the same too..

The weak link on the BBC (the 330hp version) are the heads. Look into Dart Iron Eagles and a roller cam. I have them and an HP500 intake and carb- make 475 hp on the dyno. I am .060 over too.

Yeah, $4500 for 330 short block is out of line. Now if they are adding billet main caps, line boring, decking, deburring, honing oil galleys, etc... But you are far from 330 territory then.
