a lot of good information here

Last year I detuned a 540 with a 8-71 that was set to peak at 7900 rpm ,street car to marine duty ,had dart heads ,Merlin block ,quite a bit of run time and was wearing well .most people on the water will try to keep it well under 6k rpm though

Maybe I need to fully work the heads I got, of I can I'm gonna... I was informed the pro comp heads worked can flow some good air.... All depends the $$ I got to spend

On a 4.25" stroke-
66ft/s is ~5600rpm 82.5ft/s (roughly what a nascar mill spins) is ~7000rpm Here's a kick ass chart showing the numbers for two high performance engines. Yours will spin slower, but proportionally so. http://www.epi-eng.com/images/Engine...ison_table.gif |

These are some of Bob Madara's words to me when I was considering building a 540ci . Coming from Bob you can take these words as gospel . " Your 700 hp target , from a 540ci displacement platform is absolutely doable . The majority of our 540 engine platforms are all dynoing between 685 and 725 hp , under 6000 rpm . The key components in making your target are going to be the induction system , cylinder heads and valve train . " I hope this helps to answer your question with information straight from the horses mouth .

Hard to read Rob, any clearer pic?
Looks like you hit 700hp well before 6000? so anything in the 5500-6000 range is doable if parts are right... unless the fuzz is that fuzzy lol |
