LOL, Sorry for your misfortune.
I am interested in this thread because I might be picking up a broken 540 from a buddy for cheap. He sold his boat with a bigger motor and doesn't want to buy another fast boat. Keep the info coming guys!

All depends whats there, my engines were in a running boat, its when they break or you open them up truth comes out....at this point I would have been better off building my own, at the time I had broken even after parting the boat and had free engines, got a few hours and now this... so be CAREFUL.

My whole take on stuff in general being into HP cars and boats my whole like, every person has good and bad story's, every engine builder has good and bad story's and one thing for sure, CHIT ALWAYS BREAKS........

if you cannot accept that buy a 268 sea ray with a small block and go boating every weekend like my parents, our boats are time bombs, you get used to it LOL

I think everyone is warning you about using those heads with 700hp out of a 540ci thats 1.3hp per ci which NEEDS topend stuff. Those heads would be fine around 500hp jmo

Sounds like your exhaust will work with your cam choice.... I did need to get custom length pushrods with the morel lifters....... Are you using rectangle port intakes? I spent some time port matching both the heads and intake to the fel-pro 1275? Gaskets....... Intake port volume is advertised at 320cc but I am sure I removed another 10cc...... Feel free to PM me or email me at my screen name at the yahoo site and I will be more than happy to share all the details of my 509 buildup...... TBF

Check out my old thread that shows the intakes and head ports after all the work...... I went pretty deep into the intake manifold and ended up cleaning up the entire intake ports on the heads....
