My Dad drove over the road latter in his life as well, I wouldn't call that job low life as I'm sure its not easy plus the pay believe or not can be great.

I myself dont drive over the road. I owned my own rig doing local construction type of hauling for years. Still doing it but currently working for a municipality helping out with snow and ice control. Pays the bills just fine! the salary is right on par with the fireman here in chicago. As a matter of fact, at one point I employed a fireman on his off days so he can make a few extra bucks. The firemen don't give us cookies, but they leave their door open for us, and always a wave, since we make it a point to make sure the firehouse street is cleared of ice and snow first, so those firetrucks and ambulances can get out.

I'm college educated, have a degree in Computer Science, and make a decent living, but I don't consider myself "above" the guys who work their azzes off in the heat putting shingles on a roof, or the guy who makes his living turning wrenches, or the guy driving an 18-wheeler. Hell, the guys driving those trucks are the backbone of the economy, and you better hope he's at the top of his game when he's in the lane next to your car with the wife and kids in it. Some of the smartest guys I know do the most "mundane" jobs. Likewise, I have a ton of respect for firemen, police officers, nurses and teachers. I probably hold more esteem for people like that then a high dollar CEO with a golden parachute, and much higher than almost any politician. Point I am making, is we tread on dangerous ground when we use financial or educational stature to measure someone's character. Also, folks who put off an air of self importance (deserved or not) tend to draw the most ridicule - it makes oneself an easy target. Life is easier when you have a thick skin and don't take yourself too seriously.

Well, I didn't know that. Guys, in Borgie's defense, you probably ought to take his wife's picture off your avitar, if that is true. She is an innocent bystander and shouldn't be drug into our internet nerd fight.

Two wrongs don't make a right Joe, your way better than that.

Don't let him drag you down to his level, he will beat you with experience.

You're right. In over 10 years, and 6,600 posts, I've never argued with anyone until Borgie came along.

Maybe I need to stop posting on oso for a while and go spend some time on the other boat sites.

Really it does not matter what you do for a living if it is legal and legit. As long as your happy doing it and make ends meet and have something left over for yourself. Great for you. I have a businesses major degree from A NY college back over 32 years ago. Own my own business as I have been jacking with boats and bikes my whole life and decided to go into the boat biz back in 1991 for a very long career.

MT my brother has a snow plow business, does Walmart parking lots and owns a new business driving people to their doctor appointments and pick ups in specially state required vans.
