I run the Johnsons with very little time on them so far, but the service I got was amazing, also added extra oiling to rockers for me so I can run thicker oil with no issues..

My johnsons ran fine with SOLID ROLLER springs for 1.5 hours didn't collapse, I was told it can handle it for a short period of time and lower rpm, not recommended....some guys know the story...

Never ran Morel but I know MANY guys that do with no issues, I have heard of some but nobody I know has had issues.

Interesting. So is it like a 454? 8.1L BBC truck engine ?

The spintron testing on the Johnson's for 500 hrs at 800 open was at something rediculous like 9,000 rpm if I remember correctly.

Morel has a few series of hyd lifters. For example, their std BBC size, 4603 lifter, and 5045 lifter series.

The 4603 lifter, is designed for 6600RPM continuous, and 140-180 seat pressure.

The 5045 lifter, is designed for over 7000RPM, 200-225 seat pressure, and 500-575 open pressure. They also state that with these lifters, oil heavier than 5w40 should not be used.

Both lifters are manufactured from alloy steel bar stock, and the wheel is 8620 and case hardened.

Morel supplied lifters to companies like Howards, Lunati, PBM/Erson, cam motion, bullet cams, and some others.

I have been running the 4603 lifters with no issues. I have seen many run both series of lifters without issues. And have seen some, have issues with them. A few of the 5045 style lifters, had issues at startup, and another friend had axle failures after a few seasons.

I have no experience with the johnsons, other than I have heard they are a great lifter. I have heard rumors that there was a "test", where one of the pro's here from oso did a head to head test, morel vs johnson, and supposedly the johnson lifter "kicked the morels butt". I have no idea what this test involved, but it would be interesting to hear the results. Both lifters seem to be very popular in other forms of racing.

I personally, would not use any hydraulic lifter in a marine endurance engine spinning north of 7000RPM, so to me that doesnt matter much. I don't think i'd hesitate to purchase either lifter, both made in the usa.

Hylift Johnson or Johnson lifters?
At PRI the guy at Hylift Johnson said that the other Johnson lifters were repackaged, and not to confuse those with theirs. And he also had a good explanation why Hylift high RPM lifters were better than others. I don't know for certain just what he said.

I might have gotten that backwards. From reading Johnson's website it sounds a lot like what the representative was saying. And I see those American flag boxes all over Jim's shop.
Sorry for the mistake

Thats quite the endurance test. I believe Teague uses Johnson lifters and has been a distributor for them for a while now.

I also think morel had some spintron testing of their lifters but I don't know the specifics.

Here are the distributors:

Here is what I like without using them yet : encapsulated rollers.

Sure, other companies make a big deal about using a bigger wheels, but.....from my old experiences with solid rollers the biggest failures I was a part of was with spread forks. Comp, Crane, etc. I have always worried about spreading forks because of that and in my mind, who gives a rats azz about a liifter being able to be rebuilt if the damn forks spread and/or weaken. Can't / shouldn't rebuild those !
