My 1990 Cobra (not a king cobra) had a dog clutch in it like an Alpha. I had trouble keeping gears in it at about 375 horse. The lower unit wasn't much however the upper was much stronger than an alpha upper in my opinion.

The one I'm getting is the big daddy on the far right. It has the big hump on top of the drive.

That's the rare one, both a blessing, and a curse. The best, absolute best part of the drive is you can change the impeller in about 3 minutes…literally.

Thanks for the pictorial and now slim shady is playing that song in the background lol
the one on the right is the only one that matters . Even the 460 ford motor that went into it was respectable with the trw forged slugs and all . And worth something too.
That was like putting prince slim shady and andre the giant in a line up and calling slim "baby andre"
But i will say i never knew they called the later darker smog 460 drives king cobras . Thats why i come here , to learn.

If I recall that last drive could have been the joint venture with Volvo Penta and OMC in which took place in 1993 and stated to market model year 1994.

OMC was on its way down hill from very poor quality and very poor castings right around that year. They finally went completely Bankrupt in 2000 but had a investor company in a couple years before that. OMC got out of the sterndrive business 1998. Volvo bought there end out and was no longer in a joint venture with OMC.

Back in the day model year 1994 thru 1998 warranty issues and I remember we have to determine who is responsible for covering it and when OMC dropped out in which was a CF. Here is the Service Bulletin we got way back then - basically the jist of it.
