Default 91-2013 fountain 29 help

A guy from my area has a 91 fountain 29ft. Has twin big blocks. 509ci or 540. I can't remember exactly. The boat was redone in 2013. Says it's around 600-650 hp per motor. What's this boat capable of with the setup. Also can you guys give me some advice of where to start bargaining. Thank you in advance.

Absolutely what DD has said. "Redone" in what respects? Cosmetically? Structurally? Mechanically? Who built the motors? Are they 509's or 540's? Original drives? replaced drives? Lots of variables here. You are still talking about a 25 year old boat. Get a survey for sure including compression and leakdown tests on the motors. Hard to give you "value" answers without knowing more specifics..

I can tell you this, friend of mine had a 98 with twin 454efi's was a great 70mph boat, ok 75mph, but when got near 80 would get scary at any time, fountain pulled the 502 twin option 1st, then the big block all together before the end of the run...tells you something. I know some guys run big power in these and get away with it...but just warning you now

I claim to be no fountain expert but I'm pretty sure a 91' bottom is much different than a 98' bottom. My buddies 88' 10M with 454's barely touched 65mph wide open. With 650 aside I'd venture a guess that you'd be mid to upper 70's.

My .02......Unless you are somehow limited to size, why not get a longer boat?

I'm just curious. I got a great deal on my Baja. And was thinking about going with something a bit bigger and faster. I figured that 29ft with those motors and drive would be around 90 mph ? I'm new to this so correct me if I'm wrong. But from what I gather the fountain boats are the ones you want as far as speed goes ? ( to an extent obviously). So seeing how this boat isn't far away I just thought maybe it would be the right choice. What are some other good suggestions ?

If you are stuck on a 29 Fountain, I would get a newer (step hull) 29 with a single BBC.

Superboat, Activator, Kryptonite, Phantom are boats I like. Might be too bare bones to others.

A newer stepped 29 maybe 90 but not an old heavy flat bottom.
