They are not specifying what year sport a newer year like 91 I believe is when they change them do not way near as much and I only have a 22 foot running surface one of those boats may do 85 with a 496 but I agree there would be one heck of a 496 to push an old 88 sport 85 or even 75 my motor is far from dialed in if I can get rid of the handling issues I might be able to squeak a little over 75 but I know I'm pushing close to 600 I believe somebody did answer my prop slip question very possible I haven't 165 drive did not even though that ratio existed and if these guys are doing this fast in these Baja'sI'm new to this building but from what I'm learning I definitely don't have the right hulle to go fast I just want to make it as fast as I can make it lol

His is n/a 540 750hp. Mine was a procharger 540. Mine was like a rocket and would literally jump out of the water if you nailed it out of the hole. When on plane if you nailed it it would lay all the way over on the port side of the v I rode that side of the v down the river many times. It was funny at first then got annoying. Unfortunately b4 I got the completely dialed in I ran out the river into the bay it started raining I had my uncle with me and decided to turn around. There is a very well marked channel and as usually the channel was full of crab pots (not supposed to be) I got out of the channel and was going slow not paying attention and hit a rock pile. It scraped the bottom pretty good and broke the drive in half. That was the end of the Baja. The boat would have probably gone over 100. I never had much trouble running 70-80 mph. When I had the 496 in it ran 75 and I would push it wide open and run everywhere like that. We boat in a shallow bay. It's often small craft advisory all the stuff we get around here is pretty close together it's easier running faster that slower but it does beat the boat up. The last time out in my Donzi last year a broke the console holding the controls in the boat. The throttle ended up on top of the gas tank.
The 496 you reference stock and also in a 240?

I screwed up my post, I tried copying Black Baja's quote. I still haven't figured out the tricks on this site yet. Black my question was in reference to one of your previous posts. My bad, I'll figure it out some day.

My buddy with the 540 750hp n/a 26b1 prop 6300rpm 1.5:1 drive 85mph
Mine was an 88 with a warmed over 496 24b1 5xxx RPM 1.32:1 ratio standard length drive with a nose cone 75mph. With 900hp 32b1 left and right hand props it would easily run 5500 rpm on the limited. Right handed the boat latex on the port side left handed it layed on the starboard side. I ran the boat many many times over 80 mph layed over on one side of the V. These Baja's are small light boats. They are Balsa Cored top, bottom and sides. If you are having slip issues its not because of the hook in the hull. Something else is wrong. I've ran these boats in big and nasty water launched them so far I never thought we would come back down. I've beat much larger boats in rough water with mine. They take some getting used to. But after a while it's no big deal. When they start to chine walk (cause they will) you have to man up and drive through it. After you do it 5-10 times its no big deal.

I like the hull the way it rides but it does seem to be harder to make go fast than some other boats when you say drive through it are you saying your boat would stop walking after you went over a certain speed and it maybe more manigible with hyd steering or maybe an ext box i dk but mine is that bad I fear it will break of the piece that holds the cable on the drive do I guess I should get that first then go from there should I get a single ram or dual if I can make this boat go 85 plus im going to the Potomac lol so u are saying k planes pro charger and hang on

You have to steer through the chine walk. When it rolls left turn right when it rolls right turn left. After awhile it becomes second nature and you don't even think about it. If I took someone out for the first time I would hold it right where it would start walking and let them have the rise of there life (I know I'm a dik). Hydraulic steering will help but it will still chine walk. You really need to get hydraulic steering and tabs. I have some stuff laying around if you interested.

I maybe interested lol the ride is sketchy at best in mine but its not hyd and im sure its a little sloppy also so when it breaks over center it goes farther than you want lol only thing I can compare it to is like trying to steer on ice lol once it started sliding what size pro charger were you running a 3 or 4
