I know its been awhile since this post, but I forgot to update this last year when I found the problem. So here it is... Pulled the drive, found water was leaking into the bellows, rusted and seized the gimbal bearing. I guess when you buy a used boat, never take the seller at his word the bellows were replaced. So i replaced the gimbal bearing, greased the heck out of it, all new bellows, checked alignment and dropped her in the water last year... Good as new!!!
I would have never thought the gimbal bearing would have caused this issue. I guess, in the process of elimination a bunch of stuff got replaced that didn't need to but hey, she got a great tune up! And I enjoyed her all last summer!
A special thanks to everyone who chimed in when this issue arose.

If your timing was at 2 initial and you had to add 10 to get it to 30 and 4 more to get it to 34 total i would think it was off by 14? If your motor was at 20 degrees total on my dyno and we added 14 i would think it would pick up 60+ hp, sounds like your gimbal wasnt doing you any favors but timing wasn't either, Smitty
