What is the advantage of using this distributor over the factory stuff? I have complete MSD ignition on my engines and I'm going back to factory components. In the past Ive seen WAY too many MSD ignition boxes fail. I even carry a spare 6A in case mine does.

I do agree that if you have +12VDC at the coil, you could back probe the distributor connection to make sure the connector is not at fault. Also back probe the black wire to ground too. If both of these check out then it sound like the module is at fault.

Are you saying is was better or worse? Im thinking worse. The MSD ignition box, distributor and coil have been on my boat for 25 years. The only problem I had was the boost retard module went bad and dint retard the timing when under boost.

All you need is a battery and a length of wire to go from battery positive to the + on the distributor. Crank the engine. If it doesn't start the module is bad. If it does start you have an issue on the feed from the ignition.
