will it work without ext cylinders ? has been modifyed for use with them...anyway heres a video of the old style showing the extra cylinder and the steel lines that are no longer used in the upgrade, they also make adapters for the use of your existing hoses, I just use the later hoses when I have done them in the past.

anybody know the part number for the hose adapters?
|
I didn't know they made adapters for that, but if anybody would have them it would be Imco. Give them a call
|
I got them form a merc dealer in Fl a few years back, they used to sell a update "kit" to install the newer valve on a older boat as the old one was dropped, ck with a merc dealer, they were brass with o-ring on the male side and a flair seat on the other

Send a PM to BUP, a knowledgeable member on here. I am sure he can help you out with those adapters.
|
That is a good idea. I will also call Hardin today as they sometimes have NOS parts for "vintage problems" that are not listed in their catalogue.
|
Did you call Imco, the sell alot of steering adapters, and fittings.

IMCO, no cigar
Hardin, in Florida smoking cigars, this week BUP, checking. |
I had a about 1 minute to look at this as I know 100 % that merc new style actuator uses these fittings in the link below. What we have done many of times in the past for a new installed actuator with older lines (want to say 1994 ?? and up ) was to screw out the adapter fittings used on the newer actuators and then screw in your old pwr steering lines into the actuator - this has work all the time. Now back fitting older models than 1994 or maybe it was 1996 (memory) and back if I recall the holes and or the thread size was different.
If this is the case you have to find a male fitting that goes into the actuator with and female side that will allow you to screw in your older style power steering line fittings. Hope that makes sense. Or the other way is to update your power steering lines. Here is the link of the new style actuator and the new press fittings (number 5 and 7 in the link below) - these are the ones that we have taken out to screw in the older pwr steering line fittings. MEMORY for the apps that will allow you to do so, - 1994 or somewhere 1996 to fairly current. http://www.marineengine.com/parts/me...ering-actuator |
Here is a better pic of the newer style fittings in the link below - push in and push on adapters from Merc.
For older adaption early 90's and back - you need to try find the fittings like I said in post above because Merc wants you to buy / change the lines to new version kit to work with the newer style actuators or buy the complete updated kit. Like I said you can only back fit so far, after that you are on your own trying to find fittings to make the older power steering line fittings to screw into the newer style actuators. It can be done if find the correct adapters to do so or have a hose / hydraulic company make you some lines that work with the new actuators.. http://i.ebayimg.com/00/s/MTIwMFgxNjAw/z/tFsAAOSwq7JUIwDm/$_1.JPG |
