Also you can call just about any of the custom shops imco,Teague, SM, even Latham (if you the your wallet) and they will design you any strainer you want with any kind of inlet/outlet configuration, flush bungs, pressure relief ect. Really get a designed part just for you with any kind of mounting flange ect. I was surprised the price wasn't that hateful for a custom extra large 3-3.5 gallon strainer (about 800-850$)

About 3 months ago I sat with this company and looked over their quality of Sea strainers plus they can do custom one offs - extremely great quality and I needed some custom sea strainers built for a custom application i was working on at that timeframe. They are very expensive so I could make the dollar work for what I needed. Anyways if you need these let me know as I can buy in on a less expensive level.
Again their quality is top notch. Its either Skater or MTI uses them exclusively.

Another stupid question. I always thought these were installed on the suction side (between water pickup and pump) but then I see them advertised with a pressure relief. That would indicate that it would go between the pump and the first cooler?

I suppose with multiple engines this requires more planning and forethought. Good luck!

They can be plumbed either way, but IMO you want them between water pickup and the pump; you really want to protect the pump too. Benefit of having it after the pump is to trap pieces of impeller if it disintegrates, but I'd rather not have bad stuff go through the pump at all.
