Do you need some sort of overflow if pressure get to great at speeds ? Or is it just silly to think it could even build pressure having the bravo sea pump pulling on the other side ?

I've seen bravos with a hole in the side, tapped for a fitting that sprays water on the drive. No need to go in the boat and back out. Just cap the inner transom piece.

Pick ups can be a biotch!
Mine are hanging off the transom notch, 1/4-1/2 below bottom of boat, Teague adustable scoup style. I also have a 24" channel in the hull that's 1/2" deep at the PU getting shallower at the front. Water is aerated but it's been working for years. I'd say my steps are working.
Then there are the "through keel" style. Placed correctly I've seen them hang down less than 1/8" and have plenty of water.

There are PSI relief valves available. They are adjustable.

My pick ups have never been more than a 1/4" below the bottom and actually are closer to an 1/8" and never had any flow problems.

I had that on my Pantera. I still had a dump for excess water out the side of the boat. Plenty of water still came out the side dump at 50mph +
