Most of the stuff about 90 % I see today is 10 years to brand new. Keep in mind V6 marine engines still had carbs up till beginning 2013 just saying. Alot of it is the cat engines and a few blue engines. But the Blue engines all have turn into pontoon users and or bought their kid a wake boat with an Indmar inwhich has had a CAT for many years in the USA.

I - re fixed post # 70 some words where left out on my part

If you can talk about as far for the EFI / MPI over coming / the mapping issues along with volume of air limitations and fuel limitations as a professional marine engine builder that would be great. Also anything else about building a EFI/ MPI engine from the stand point user friendly for the waterways (docking) (WOT) and so on also longevity obtainable, it will make for a great story. Also include your pics and the scripts like you see here in my story.

I wanted to give you an idea of what the magazine looks like plus how we have to keep adding a part II and III and so on for now until the magazine grows bigger. Also do not forget to give me whatever marketing info about yourself and company wants to be included into the story line.

Story part 1 by me is only basic to slightly medium depth so now we have to pick it back with part II with some real depth and move forward from there. Thank you John"
Bob Madera is an engine "builder"? Since when? EFI tuning??

Joe that would even add more drama on top this already. Like I said I knew that this email was going to Alex as well. Since Alex posted this email from me to Bob the question would be how else would Alex have gotten it - thru Bob of course. It was already talked about on the phone with Bob who was going to be asked but did not add anything about their own EFI conversion set ups to write about.

I tried to pull up the story online but currently can not download it. Looks like the online publishers might have gone under as well very currently. I sure hope not.

It's still in the magazine print copy and I have spares. Alex you want me to send you one just asking.

And so now my personal emails are going to be posted up on OSO and that is NOT RIGHT either especially without MY permission. Just saying after I think about it. Very uncalled for -- were is Grifff the crime dog (haha)

Very unprofressional to say the least. Maybe I need to rethink about staying up here on OSO and call it a career.

This thread had a good roll going with some good knowledge on some cool motors put out in the day. Too bad everybody got in a dick measuring contest.

I'm in the process of freshening the 320 EFI's in my 88 272 - ran fine just a little tired @ 650hrs would only turn 5k and one cracked a head. Was thinking of adding some cam and headwork at the suggestion of Jim Hall @ TPIS. AFR could easily be monitored via WB in the stock exhaust...if necessary I could add some injector should it go lean but it'd sure be nice to know what was in it so I don't have to start throwing injectors at it guessing.

BUP - would you be interested in me sending you a set of my stock injectors to get this data off of? I would definitely need them back since they are NLA(not accusing just saying don't destroy them please ).

Hax - do you have any experience with the controller on these motors? If so, can anything be done with them to add fuel?

If the controllers can't be worked I'm sure there are other caveman ways to add fuel(afpr, bigger injectors, FMU, etc...) But then LS motors start looking really nice..I've done a bunch of swaps into cars so not scared, these motors are just so goddamn cool looking it'd be nice to keep them in there.

11;1 is mad rich. why would they do that?

When I have re-tuned mefi controlled efi motors on the water I have often wondered WTF were they thinking sending stuff out tuned so rich it shows 11-1 on wideband? I recently bought a injector flowing/testing/ cleaning machine and started offering this service as part of my business, after seeing a 6-20% difference from best to worst on several sets of dirty injectors the light came on as to why merc sends these out pig rich. IF a injector with 100 hours run time is down 20% you are talking easily 2.5 points of air fuel ratio, a motor that was originally tuned to 11-1 would now be in 13's and probably live, a motor that was tuned perfect at 12.8 would now be 15+to 1 and detonated to death, at least thats my guess as to why merc sends stuff out so pig rich=safe

I'd be nervous still, in my last post I mentioned recently testing/cleaning, flowing injectors on my injector machine. I spent 4 hours flowing, ultrasonic cleaning, reflowing, reverse flowing and then flowing again and again 13 injectors from mpi 502 engines trying to come up with eight good ones, after all this I had 4 that were within 4% and consistently flowed the same a few others flowed close until you turned up rpm's and or PW then they lagged behind, the rest of them either had terrible spray patterns or were off by 6-20%. If you got your customers boat to run ok at idle but it has a couple weak injectors towards 4500-5000 you really wont know until it melts a piston, breaks ring land etc, just my opinion. I also tested a set of injectors from a 500 efi, one was down almost 20%before cleaing, flowing, cleaning again and again and afterwards iI still have one down 12+% , I would dare to guess out of 32 30 year old injetors you have some weak ones even after cleaning them, fwiw, Smitty

^^^^^^^ Exactly and the reason you need have them tested plus the electrical testing of the injectors. Questions would be - how would you ever know if they leak, can not hold pressure and what the spray patterns look like plus flow volume testing as being equal. So what happens when the basket filters dry rot out ? Cleaners do not cure dry rotted basket filters, most of the time, the fuel injectors have to be backed flushed first before anything. This is not uncommon to see broken and or dry rotted basket filters that can be stuck in the internal top feed portion.

IMO Jim H. at TPIS would want to change out your 320 EFI Merc ECU inwhich basically somewhat the same that was used on alot of outboards back the day. It would not surprise me if he suggested upgraded injectors as well.

You can send me your injectors if needed. Let me know your plans here and of course I would not purposely damage anyone injectors.

BUP, my replacement 502 mpi injectors showed up Sat in the mail, had a spare hour today to flow them, DIY EFI claims they are a match flowed set, they are FAR worse than the stock ones AND they shut down at 40-45 psi, the stock ones flow well past 75 psi before they stall, they just dont match. Sending these ones back, total junk, can only imagine the guy who doesnt own a flow bench and trys to run them. In my case my project motor is still on my dyno, IF new ones flow a little more I'm still tuning it any ways and can adjust for it. Must be cheap Chinese garbage!

I have warned many about this and even in this thread (post # 11) . Another reason why I do not buy online injectors especially from Ebay. I even test brand new injector and reman injectors no matter who's they are to see how flow matched they are and impedance reading.

I will post a link that these brand of injectors are very copied from China that many buy. They are really bad for match flow testing, extremely poor and look EXACTLY like the OEM injector. Even the engraving is copied. The real injectors come from Italy ONLY. I had hell getting Mike Tkach one injector replacement and told him please wait as I will only get him an OEM 100 % replacement. Mike was very patient with me . It took me 3.5 weeks to get the real deal injector for Mike.

I have your phone number I might call you to talk shop sometime this week.
