350 N/A Recipes

My situation.....bought a boat the PO said had fresh rebuilds on motors, come to find out they weren't done correctly, half a$$ed wouldn't even describe it. No new gaskets were used, a million tubes of gasket maker were though. My question is since I'm going through the ordeal of pulling both motors, drives and transmissions and getting them all rebuilt, are there any recipes for these smallblocks that will put out respectable torque and horsepower. I'm new to powerboats, not engines or transmissions, don't wanna tackle changing motor mounts and aligning all new blocks, exhaust etc. I did notice today that the port motor exhaust manifold is cracked through the outer jacket and has been epoxied to keep water in. Advice, pointers, etc all needed and appreciated.

Do a 383 with dry joint exhaust. I can guide you through the exhaust portion which is not just bolt on. A few modifications are required. the 383 rotating assembly will have to be tackled by some more knowledgeable people on here but exhaust is a big issue. First off... Throw your exhaust in the trash and pm me for suggestions

The motors are relatively easy. Just money...LOL.

But, and this is a big but, I would 1st check to make sure the boat is worth it....I know you just bought it, but make sure the boat hull and etc is sound first.

The transom and stringers are super solid, gelcoat has several spider cracks around the rear cockpit seating area. Needs gauges and a good cleaning. My thoughts are that at the absolute worst I build motors, drives and transoms and trash the hull and drop them in something else. I realize this is a money pit, but I think I'm prepared to lose money on this project lol

Okay, cool.

What do you want for power ?

Just keep in mind your limitations to particular era those drives and trans are for. Not a big deal however would limit your next boat to an 80's to early 90's boat. Just would narrow your search if need be.

I've researched the trs drives and read that 500 hp is about all they will hole reliably, so let's shoot for 500hp
