I rebuilt some carbs for a buddy last year. Needle and seat was 90% clogged by a piece of rubber that came from somewhere in his fuel system. I would imagine, that he would not have seen a loss in fuel psi, but certainly a lean afr reading.

This gauge looks like a must for any piece of mind on a custom build. Not knocking fuel pressure gauge, I have one of those also.
Anybody added data logging to monitor with vac/tps/rpm/afr? Looks easy to add tps to carb. |

If it's that clogged and he didn't feel it laying over he needs to pay better attention to how it's running.
Some like EGT's however AFR's is a much easier I think and ultimately the best way to maximize HP while egt is extremely important as well however applications can very much more with a broader band of temps making most HP. I'd like to have both to be honest however going AFR. |
I'm running the AEM "failsafe" gauge..
http://www.aemelectronics.com/sites/...failsafe_0.jpg Logs RPM MAP and AFR. It can be set up to activate a warning if your A/F falls out of the range you specify.. :) http://www.aemelectronics.com/?q=pro...failsafe-gauge |
I've welded into Gil's with blown engines but prefer not to do it on cmi's
