Cam and valvetrain longevity....??? low duration high lift...

It was questioned on the last page if you were going to reuse your lifters and I would suggest NOT using them again. If the lifter was lofting it was hammering the sh!t out of the needle bearings.
I think I saw that you have SM exhaust? You can't get the valve covers off to re-check lash without pushing the manifold back. Something to consider... That was one of the main reasons I changed from solid to hydrualic a few years ago. Disassembling the exhaust to check lash once a year was too much of a PITA in my older age.

Amazes me that the head company's sell these knowing they are going in the marine environment. Don't think they want to cut the hard seats.

Thats my guess too. Prob easier/faster to machine them on the assembly line as well.

Tim, if you decide to take the advice on the seats, get the old man to take the heads to Kenny and have them done before he gets too far along on the port work so he can blend the seats back into the pocket.
Im sure you know the routine, but I'm just throwing it out there.

Moral of the story is its all worth it in the long run. Although I envy stock guys who just have to check the oil I'm not one of them. Not many of us are or we wouldn't be here on this very site.

Lifters are going back to Johnson for checking out and fixing any issues..
leaning towards hydraulic due to exhaust, but have not decided yet totally.

trying to as I donlt give up easy, I have way too much money already into engines that are nothing but a thorn in my side, good parts still not good, 40,000.00 later I stiull find more money needing spent... then some guys here say "pay a professional" well all the issues are found by them and also had issues so that's out the window, does not mean it's going to go well.... ask Frickstyle....
I really wish I kept my 420's and procharged them and all this would have never happened and parts would be MUCH cheaper if there was an issue... AND make MORE POWER... man do I have regrets... HUGE regrets..I make the money to spend, and will always, but this is getting old real fast.... may be a parts boat soon...

Hang in there. That's something I'm sure you've heard over and over also but... When what's suppose to be fun turns into frustration and costly it sucks bad. I think we've all been there. I remember my partner grenaded a rod in his blown 38 right before selling it. We put a new set of 330's in it to sell and the very first time he put it in the water in traverse city to make sure it ran out ok he had some dude in his revved up sonic motioning him back out the channel to run. He still talks about it to this day 25 yrs later what a sick feeling that was. Knowing he'd get his azz kicked and couldn't do chit about it. Only thing that saved his day is I wasn't far behind and followed the guy out myself and took care of business.
