Just finished a 540. J Wurl's Formula. His original build was same engine 4.500 bore, 4.250 stroke, 9.6 cr ,AFR 305 with cnc chambers, Marine Kinetics Hyd roller, Mild .638/.621 His original set-up was a 500 EFI intake with a single blade throttle body attached to intake center, MEFI. Here we are now with the Holley HP set-up. Edelbrock intake, 2000 cfm TB, same cam. 690 PK Torque, 714 Hp. Custom, ECU and electrical bracket, center plate adapter to replace Holley's, that includes regulator mount. Harness was a non-terminated, with a new non-terminated 6' 12volt engine harness

And,only 7cid more than the 565, is a MER 9.5:1 572 that made 823hp corrected, 808hp observed :
Post 292 here: http://www.offshoreonly.com/forums/g...ml#post4111590 Note: congrats to him showing observed and corrected + the fact the corrected was diddly (tiny)compared to observed. You can click on the attachments and then click a few times from there to blow up into a readable size.

This was the first of 3 Holley EFI Systems, I have done so far. This system has made a believer out of me of it's simplicity of use, navigation of program and the operating speed of the ecu. The closed-loop learning is instantaneous, during the test pulls. Comparing the learn A/F with the A/F of my dyno acquisition data, is so close. Synchronizing the spark/ fuel tables with the ecu and from the ecu back to program is made simple. All spark/fuel changes made while online, with no shutdown or delays, makes back to back test a simple task. Once you have the final test; the file is saved and then transferred to the matched engine. This system has a dashboard which you can change the gauges and values to what you need to observe. It has data logging, with a overlay for transfer to your spark/fuel tables. I am a strong believer in this Holley EFI. I have stayed away from EFI tuning for the fear of lack of tuning knowledge for EFI systems and have had to rely on someone else calibrating the ecu in the past. Always having to wait for someone else, time involved, travel and being locked out of the ecu just wasn't my idea of building power and tuning my package. I have to thank Alex Haxby, for his start-up program and help through out. Once I was ready; Alex, took over my laptop from Vancouver BC here @ my business in SC while he demonstrated and explained the process and navigation. I really thought; it was going to be some big complicated task, it turned out to be pretty simple. I just finished up a 383 using the Stealth Tunnel Ram EFI, which I was able to pick a base calibration from the Global Folder then make some minor changes. Start-up was fast and smooth from the firing of the engine, I will post it up once we get the video finished. I don't want to highjack this thread with the 572 build, so I will start a seperate thread on it with pictures and details of the project. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=THTwkuWLpCE |

I am like joe also, do things myself some issues and some guys hate me bacuse I speak my mind, claim in stupid and don't listen, well I do listen, my engine build came out ok in the end besides the part out of my control, I took heat for issues and nob bashing, I don't regret it at all... I learned a ton though so that worth it to me.. Still learning and boated all summer doing it!!

Intakes need to go or at the very least opened up and flowed. They've bothered me from day one threads. Not to be or sound like an azz but it's kinda like putting perfume on a pig so to speak. 4500 carb would undoubtedly help however I've seen identacle carbs as yours on same cubes running higher rpm with another 100hp. Street and strip engines though. Get those janky azz intakes off. Other good 4150 intakes to choose from if you have to.
Not good to go 4500 intake with 4150 carb from my experience however other way around seems to work well. |
I have a 4150 carb on a 4150 intake not a 4500...

I'm a simpleton but I can read. It likely had the MK cam swapped out and made more power. Just a guess.

I'm pretty confident mine is not right for my application

You can swap out a cam on any build and get more power. Don't mean it is the right cam for the application .
