Eliminated572 Ive yet to try it at 1000? I can make mine idle at 1000 smooth, just when its surging I can't get out if its over 900. So maybe its loading too hard on the serge and wouldn't on 1000. Ill have to try and see??? Thanks for the info!!

First or all, before spending a ton of money on expensive ignition systems you need to verify a bunch of things. I don't run locked timing, have MSD with mechanical springs so you don't need a Daytona to get it right. I always tune my engines to have zero surge.

If you can't do it with mixture screws, you may need to open the secondary butterfly on the carbs because you might be going slightly past the idle air slot and it's not happy. A lean surge will be longer and weak, a rich surge will be quicker and more pronounced. I can't take the time to post all of the things to check because it takes time and refinement of everything to get it right but you can PM me and I'll be happy to talk on the phone.

900-1000 is fine depending on the engine and camshaft.

He has a small cam which could be one of the reasons its surging. I've seen that before.

Out of gear they are about 950, in gear 500-600. I don't ever have to mess with throttles or anything, just dump in and out of gear. A good friend said to me last year; "965hp and we go boating trouble free all day and dock it like it's a 454 mag."

Panther what do you idle at? It sounds like much more cam than mine so im sure that is part of my problem! I will PM you would love to find out what you did!

I went with the profile I have working with Comp Cams on that making reversion a real concern but with the fast surge idle I have im sure I am getting reversion at this point. Another reason im so intent on getting rid of it!

Well, I did get about 500rpm drop. But that was 1.36 gear with 35p 5 blade props... I had idle AFR around 14:1 there... The more vac (timing) and idle circuit fuel I gave it, the better she responded. Now this is to a point. Going too fat worked me the wrong way... In the mid 13's for me was butter zone.

950 out of gear, 500-600 at dead stop idle in gear. You can see it in the last video I posted.
