Mike, I never recommend cams these days but I can tell you what I run in my 396 69 Camaro. custom comp grind solid roller, 263/274 648/646 109 lsa, 49* overlap, 25/25 lash, 12.5 CR 7/16 push rods comp rller rockers, through cambered exhaust. won't really work for your build, But if your customer wants to rattle the glass at the soda shop that's the ticket!!

The GM crate 427/480HP engine, is 10:1, uses the same 224/234 110 LSA the ZZ502 crate engine uses. The 427 makes 480hp around 5800rpm. The ZZ502, makes 508hp at 5200rpm. Same heads, same cam, 9.6:1.

Im almost positive that cam is a BILLET core, and availble for 200 bucks new

Camshaft Type (P/N 12366543)

How about a ZL1/L88 427 mechanical flat tappet

GM 3959180 2nd design L-88, ZL-1 cam, also used in the LS-7. I'm just finishing up on my street car and found a NOS GM one that I used with Crower EDM lifters.
I'm sure power was left on the table compared to a modern roller but I wasn't too concerned with that, besides have you ever heard one of these cams?

oh yeah the 427 cam, well the car was a 390 horse at birth, and when I got the car in 1973 I just had to stick a 425 horse flat tappet solid GM cam, last year I rebuilt the engine and actually installed the updated Crane version of that flat tappet cam. I want to run that car out route 66 soon so I went to a relatively calm driver cam. But I did put a nasty little Bullet flat tappet Cam in my 302 cougar with headers 2 years ago when I rebuilt that engine.

I think we all must have a sickness taking engines on a Saturday night!

Hey lee.
FYI:
Check those crower EDM lifters real closely!
I just bought a set last spring / late winter and one was absent the EDM hole.
I had to send it back and get a replacement.
Probably just a fluke, but just a heads up.

I usually do this...1800-cam-help..comp, grinding me a special SB cam as we speak for boat engine I'm doing now

mike tkach 01-31-2017 11:24 PM

after doing some research i decided to go with a crane 168741 cam.in this small 462 cu in engine i think it will pull hard to 6400 or so and still have more low end grunt than the car can use.the heads came today and i gotta say they are a thing of beauty.the polished cnc chaimbers look awsome.
