2x 383 MPI with 330 TRS/Merctrans II with big coolers from KC, temp-gauge.
What oil temperature (Merctrans) is max allowed?
Do the TRS need drive shower?

TRS circulates it's lube between the upper and lower so really no need for a shower. You will find there are very few even available. As for the temp not sure of a number but you should have no problem with that. Just check that it is always clean looking and has no burnt smell. I change mine once a year and it always looks and smells like new when I do, and I just use the stock finned cooler.

Default MercTrans

Hi, Kirk here. The tailshaft washer on the MercTrans is readily available here ( KC Marine). About six years ago, I was running very, very low on them, and was fortunate enough to track down Mercruisers original source. It is just really odd dimensions, but ridiculously inexpensive.
The other issue is the huge amount of people who innocently want to change the rear seal, and are unaware of the presence of the washer. Hence, new seal in, but the washer is down in the grease, and the moment the drive is mounted it rips out the new seal with the extension spring (24-62727). The seal itself is a CR (Chicago Rawhide) 10050.
I could keep that fact secret, but I can`t justify selling a entire seal kit to some poor guy who just needs to go to the bearing supply store, and I`m tired of reciting the part number on the telephone. So it`s here for everybody.

I run temp and oil pressure gauge, worth the investment. My temp with the Gatling coolers run about 105-115. My pressure is about 105-110 running and my eye is always on those two gauges. The good thing about pressure gauge is that if u see a drop in pressure you can back off and save from tearing up a trans.

I use the water that goes thru cooler and that dumps overboard as the drive shower works great. Ordered stuff from Kirk several times and is a pleasure to speak to and always helpful.
