Intake or spacer

1 Attachment(s)
I received the Dart adaptors so I can run Dominators on my current intakes (Darts). However the amount of grinding that is going to need to be done, I'm thinking about ditching this plan and just buying Victor intakes. While it doesn't look like much, the center divider runs all the way up to the lip that is protruding out. This is going to mean a lot of reshaping. The only reason for any hesitation, is that the current darts have been port matched and fit perfectly. That being said, it would probably be quicker to just port match the Victor, than mess around blending everything to get these adaptors to fit perfectly. Plus if it doesn't work well, I have two intakes that are pretty much worthless. What are the opinions on this? Do you guy agree that the Victor is the best option here? If I'm overlooking a better intake let me know, maybe Sniper Jr?

For those that don't know, this is my set up:
509 cu
Dart Pro 1 320 finished runner, JimV heads that flow +/- 398
Crane 741 Cam
10:1 cr
Eickert Headers
AED Dominator 1050
Daytona Ignition

Why a dominator with such a small cam and intake?

i would go with the new victor,s or maybe ditch the dominator and try a 4150 1050 first.

don't forget the floors of the ports on the heads and the dart intake have been raised about 3/8 inch.
If you only knew how many hours I had port matching the intakes to the heads on both of those engines.
Unless you plan on changing the cam I would stick with a 4150 carb.
With the setup I had in the Scarab the engines were at max output at 5400 RPM before I got to full throttle.
So the HP 950's that came with the engines were big enough.
Are you proping for 5700 RPM? That is where they should be.
I was going to have the stock Bravo 28's labbed but lost interest in the Scarab since Patty wouldn't let me go to Lake MI anymore and the Scarab was boring on Hardy pond.

On the Daytona the same exact engine / drive / prop combo turned 6000 RPM and I reached max output at 6000 RPM and full throttle. No extra throttle left.
With all of the work you are doing I would install a bigger cam. I was thinking about doing this and doing some more power adders before I bought the Daytona.

I'm prototyping up some new adapters while I read this.

Looks like you're having some fun with that 3D printing machine of yours. Pretty cool stuff. What size are the engines your working on now? Are these still your 468's?

Adding a bigger cam has been in the back of my mind. I may if I can get the time to get the other engine out. I really need to get this new project wrapped up, I need to get the boat down to Valako soon so I can have him make the new tail pipes. There was a guy on here this winter that had a pair of 509's set up almost the same, except with stock pro 1's, 651 cam and 1050 dominator and he was making over 700 hp. He sent me the dyno sheets and it had a great power band. I really think the 1050 Dominator is a good carb with this engine. I like experimenting with things so we will see how it pans out.

Yes I am. I have been making gaskets and spacers for my engines. One day at the shop JimV clayed up an adapter like you have and asked if I could print one. I drew up the cad and viola I have his designed spacers. The neat thing with a few clicks on the mouse I can make stock height 2" or 4" or 10" spacers. I also have these in straight 4150 and dominator.

Still my 468's. I am making 5" 4150 spacers similar to add runner length in theory. I have some Merc 420's that I need to put back in my Panther after I pulled it's power for my Active Thunder.

If you're making these, I wouldn't mind trying a pair like you have pictured. I was about ready to pull the trigger on a pair of Victors. What is Jim's opinion of the spacer, did he help you design it?
