Check the cannon plug while you're in there

Ok...This did it..As i said previously I passed all this info from everyone to my friend. I asked him over and over again about the grounds and he kept on saying everything is grounded and new. Well today
I put the starboard engine on 1 perko switch and the port engine on 2 perko switch. I remember someone previously mentioning this. The port motor started and the starboard motor didn't. Just a click..
We tested it with a volt meter 12.5 volts and also did a load test on it. Battery checked out fine. Then we jumped that battery and still just a click..Ok. We then took a set of battery cables and grounded the engine to the battery. Started right up.....Took the boat for a ride...5100 rpms no pop no holding back played with the trims etc.
Problem solved...

great news,,glad you found it.you replace the whole cable or just the ends?

No we're going to run new ground cables and take the old ones out

Also engine back side ground cable installed from (studs) one engine to the other engine is a normal install. This cable needs to be spec sized and the same size as the ground cable from the battery to back side of engine ground stud.

But also make sure and always install a proper size ground cable(s) from the starting battery to back side of the engine stud . Make sure all is clean, rust free and tight.

All ground cables need to be of spec sized if not they will cause a voltage drop. And the goes for all positive cables. All cab;es need to meet the correct spec size - all sizing is determine how long the cable runss are. The longer the runs the larger the cables need to be. This is ABYC speced as well.

If all cables are clean and tight - the next cause for voltage drops is the wrong size cables themselves. To small always causes voltage drops.

Just the point of how important grounds are and a lot of times more so than the positive side of it. could not be SPELLED IT OUT LOUD enough about grounds and sized cables and even mentioned in 3 rd paragraph as well = " But always make sure install ground cable at the Starting Battery to back side of engine stud ".

I was just rephrasing for everyone including myself. The smallest ground wire issue can be hidden wherever and be the lunch eater to fix. IMO it just shows how important grounds are especially for marine apps.
