Am i the the only one that runs the amsoil 75w-90 marine gear lube? Seems like everyone runs the amsoil anything but marine.

Actually, I'd say 95%+ of those here that state they use Amsoil gear oil never state what the heck Amsoil they use. Once in a while someone will state they use Severe Gear, but of course don't state what weight. Same with Redline, they'll just state shock proof, but not which one

Drive's me nutz. LOL.

The new Merc Racing lube is probably the best. No sure who has best price and I can't get it locally without a special order.

Cheapest Merc Hi Performance Gear Lube is the Quicksilver HP Gear Lube at Walmart for $10 a quart. It is EXACTLY the same as Mercruiser with a QS label.

Many are starting to use 75 / 80 w - 140 of different brands.
I like Driven oils

Been using the Amsoil marine gear lube for years - it is more resistant to water than the severe gear. Doesnt gel up in the reservoir like the green stuff. I also read somewhere that the new formulation of severe gear was causing cone clutch problems.

Griff, High Performance has been the entry level ( standard bravo, etc) oil for a few years now. Extreme Performance is designed for Xr thru #8s. The new Extreme oil is brown versus old top of the line HP blue. The new High Performance oil is brown. Hope that makes sense. I have seen the High Performance at Wal Mart but not the Extreme Performance.
I called Merc last year to get the correct info for my XRs.

Amsoil Marine Gear here as well. Severe gear didn't specify marine use so I dare not fill a submerged case with it.

I`m running this purely because it`s synthetic and found at O'reilly

I appreciate all the replies. I didn't intend to start another debate on gear oils! I'm going to stick with Mercury but last time I bought the green "high performance" oil and not the latest and greatest which I guess is the Mercury Racing 85w90. Gotta get some ordered soon as winterization is coming up. :(

Yep, I aware of that.
I was trying to say the Merc HP gear lube(green) was exactly the same as Quicksilver HP Lube except for the label and is only $10/qt at Walmart compared to $17/qt at a Merc dealer.
