Default I Need an ECU/PCM for 496mag

I have a pcm (ecu) acting up. It seems to short out internally when it feels like it. I swapped it to the other motor and the issue followed.

Where do I get another PCM ? I google the numbers and I'm not coming up with the exact part to buy. its a 2006 496mag....Non HO.

The numbers are PCM0308M with a date code 2-24-06. Other numbers on it are 885557 and 866090-003.

Where can I find a replacement ? I see different variations of this part number around. Can I use another (upgraded) part number with this motor? motor is 100% stock.

Or....anyone have one laying around they want to sell ?

I did find someone who may have a spare 496HO PCM. I know this will not work with my motor, but here is a question: Can I go to a dealer and have this working 496HO PCM re-flashed with a regular 496mag mag program ???

I believe they are 375hp. I do not have the HO 425.

Thanks for checking. The #'s on mine are 866090-003 which I believe has been superseded by 866090T05.

Its 375 hp. No you can not take a pcm 555 or an ecm 555 in to a dealer and have it remap. There is very few whom can do this with 555 controllers. If someone thinks they have one for your app i have to say ---- There is no thinking about it. Its yes they have the exact pcm 555 for ur app or they do not. Merc dealers really do not make that much money selling ecm s. 99.5 percent dealers will not have one on the shelf either. If you have no luck with buying the exact pcm. I can order it when i get back in town.

!!!!!!!! I believe so whipple still currenty is. But i think he does not do anything with MEFI ecms. I am pretty sure he does not remap mefi ecms. But will add So do I as well repair ecms and pcms. I Prob have fixed for the 496 pcm 555 about 12 so far in 2 years. 8 others were not worth trying to repair. Just saying.

I've been referred to Top Quality Source for Boat MEFI ECU Tuning | CO, KS, OK, TX, NE, AR, MO | MEFI Tuning in the past. They have re-manufactured MEFI's ready to ship or can rebuild yours. They were VERY helpful on the phone, even helping to diagnose my current issue, which I'm still chasing. Help Chasing Erratic Idle Please

And while searching also found helpful info here OBD Diagnostics
