Default Cat hull vs V Hull

From my perspective the engine combinationd and engine setups on bigger V bottom boats is alot different then in a cat hull. Is the big reason because they run so much deeper in the water and are a lot heavier and harder to plane ?

Definately two different breeds but a lot can depend on the V bottoms efficiency weight, step, pad, drive height etc. But would set up differently. Nice thing about V bottom builds, they'll work well in in both assuming their set up right to begin with. I've never owned cat but just voicing my opinion. In a nutshell I wouldn't set up drastically different.

Do v hull boats not load the engine a lot harder down low and through the RPM range ?

I would think a cat would also at least until it got up to speed while getting the lift from packing the air under it. But until that point not real sure. Assuming both boats are some length what one actually has more hull in the water. Not sure on drag at lower speeds. I've always heard once you go cat you don't go back. Every now and then I see some affordable 31 American Offshores out there that look tempting. Just not sure how Lake Michigan would deal with it on long runs. Great Lakes can be very unpredictable.

lots of variables. Weight, deadrise, hull width and chines. And CG relative to the back of the boat.

Id guess that in general you are correct since cats have less dead rise and they probably push the tunnel ceiling into the water when plaining. Which would create a lot of lift.
