Default Winterize / storage question.

My home is for sale and should be sold sometime over the winter. Once this happens I'll have to move the boat.
My problem is this: I plan on storing the boat with the outdrive in the down position and once a shrink-wrap I will no longer have access to the controls to raise the outdrive for trailing.

I was thinking about running wires from the power trim motor out the boat drain hole so when It comes time to move the boat I can connect the wires to a power source and raise the drive. Will this work? or is it easer to just remove the outdrive from the boat. If so, what is involved in removing and reinstalling the drive.

I would think that powering the 12volt solenoid on the trim motor would do the trick. Seems a lot easier than pulling the drive off.

Attach the wires to the solenoid now and wire nut them off for future connection.

Pull a wiring diagram on the trim motor so that you get the correct wires.

I'd just store it in trailer this year

I would prefer to pull the drive. It should be part of your normal winterizing procedure anyway. Also, you should grease the u-joints every season and check your gimbal bearing.

Could you unbolt your trim cylinders and tie the drive up when you need to move the boat?

if its a bravo,it takes about 10 minutes max to pull the drive and twenty to reinstall it.Undo the two nuts holding the trim cylinders to the drive.Undo the 6 nuts holding the drive to the housing.Ease the drive out about one inch and disconnect the shifter cable by lifting up the little lever locking the cable into the shift rod.Disconnect the speedo pickup by turning it 30 degrees and pull up. Pull the drive out the rest of the way.Thats it,8 nuts, one cable and one speedo tube.Reverse the procedure to reinstall and torque all fastners to 55lbf.
