Spent good part of day sorting thru minor problem's. Im using stock valve covers w .310 gaskets, tabs ground and cut out on these motors, tall ones wont clear the inercooler later, still waiting on gaskets to show up So i stuck a set of tall dart race valve covers on for now. Ive ran thesr w no issues on other bbc's. Well, on this one it had a strange noise in valve train. Pulled all o2 sensor wires out of the way, tore off valve covers, relashed the valves. Still noisy. Pulled vslve covers again, found tiny marks on them where rocker arms were hitting them on intake manifold side
held a straight edge acrossed bolt holes on both head and valve covers. Casting on vcovers sticks in MORE than cast iron on head. Swapped on other valve covers, noise gone!

I like mine, been running perfect for 12,now 13yrs.my intakes are highly modified, make alot of tq.mine are mefi4b's.look forward to some numbers.

So we did get dyno runs in, started w my tune i did on 502 i built to sell my baja w that made 563 hp (flat top piston, iron heads that were slightly modded, highly modded mpi intake, twin 68 mm tb from tpis, 500efi cam).
So we were expecting 520ish hp, first mini pull to 5200 we made 518 w afrs in 11s. Took a little fuel out, pulled higher and higher progressively. This thing peaked at 5800/5900 and pulled easily to 6000.
Our dyno has two sets of software running independent of each other, depac and perf trends. On the depac we saw 573 hp at 5800, 558 ft lbs tq at 4800, bsfcs in the .54 range. Cf was 1.095 using j607. Ambient was in mid 90s yesterday here and humidity was fairly high. On perf trends, we saw 553 hp at 5800 and 548 ft lbs tq at 4100/545 at 4800

this thing responded real well to the double fire swap cam, head work i did and intake work/bored throttle body. I did NOT think we'd see much more than 520 though. I was real aggressive on intake mods, willing to give up some na torque since were bolting whipple sidemounts on anyways. Tq was about same as last couple of mild 502s i dynoed minus the 9 or 10% from cubic inch difference.
