I run a thermostat.

Hmmmm, with a stat and dry pipes I was at 55 PSI without a relief valse.
3/4 inch NPT dump in each tail pipe.
If I remember correctly you also run dry pipes....

My water pickup is on the bottom of the boat. Flush with the bottom.

We manage water pressure by bleeding off water from the front of intake manifold and dumping it thru the transom. With a restrictor in the water dump hose fitting, the water pressure stays at a constant 10-15 lbs.

Why not bleed it off the rear of the intake and eliminate to possibility of steam pockets?

Did you always have to much pressure or is something restricting the exit path of the water, block or exhaust manifolds full of rust or dirt.

Its allways had high presure.WOT is 30 plus.i may have some restrictions.not sure.Just been building the boat the last 2 years.the 2 dumps i added to the rear of the intake worked but i dont get enough water to the front of the motor.

Thats what i did.I dont get enough water to the thermostat to build any heat and it will run hot.my temp guage wont move even though its hot.no water to front of intake.

I'd keep the bleeds on the rear of the intake but restrict them to the very minimum. This will eliminate the possibility of steam pockets which the engine will be more prone to develop when you install the water pressure relief valves due to lower pressure.

Could you post some pics of your plumbing?
