Mounting Smart coils
I just bought 8 Holley smart coils.
anyone know of a bracket for mounting them on the back of the head or engine. Otherwise I will have to make a mounting plate to mount the coils, HP module and relays. |
Not sure of premade mounts, but as far as mounting locations, I made a bracket for mine and mounted them below the exhaust. That way, they are pretty much hidden, yet still close to the plug so I could run a short wire.

I have made composite plates even a few from carbon fiber sheets - then mount coils plus even spaced mount the coil back sides, then mount plate / or sheet in the best possible location. ie : backside of engine(s) or bulkhead or even some locations inner of the engine compartment dividers -- I have even mounted the plates off the stringers then custom make shorter plug wires. There is custom alum plates and or brackets out in the market place to mount all on the top of the valve covers as well. |
I believe that I have room on the back of the engine to mount a plate to mount the computer, relays and coils to.
Everything about this boat is organized, neat and compact. The engine compartment was a mess of cables, hoses and wires when I bought it. everything is tucked up under the top half now. I have to pull the engine to repair an oil leak and replace the start relay anyway so it will be a lot easier to do with the engine out. That and I have a thought to increase my CR to 14+ to 1 and run E85 - should be good for 1000 HP NA. |
Do you have any pictures of what you did to mount them?
|
Paint them Merc blue and mount to the top of your valve covers. Hah... as I'm sure you've seen however not real trick looking to say the least. |
My engine isn't Mer'c blue. I built this engine from scratch. The only Mer'c parts are the thermostat housing, bell housing and flywheel ( balanced neutral )
My block is painted bright white and the heads are raw aluminum, valve covers, intake, pulleys and other things are painted transparent candy apple red. |
holley makes these and I have somewhat copied the design with carbon fiber sheets or composite sheets. Then drilled my own holes, then used spacers and isolators to mount the coils and installed in the best possible location per apps. I also have used these holley coil mounts in the pic as well. If I get a chance to go thru some of my past SD cards to pull up pics, Ill see what I can post. Hopefully I do not have to go thru too many SD cards to find these pics. I have so many and all full with boat related stuff.https://cimg4.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.off...bbb3105274.jpg
